Daniel Murphy

Daniel Patrick Murphy, age 70, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Kobacker House after a courageous year long battle with cancer. Dan graduated from St. Christopher High School, Bishop Watterson High School and Columbus State before proudly serving three years in the U. S. Army with two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a sergeant from the Worthington Police Department after 26 years and also retired from Commerce National Bank. He held memberships in the American Legion Post 239, FOP Capital City Lodge #9 and 1st Ultralight Aero Squadron. Dan was a sports enthusiast, cheered on the OSU Buckeyes, Watterson football and was an avid golfer. He is preceded in death by his father James Murphy. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; daughters, Amanda (Steve Miller), Christina Gibson, Danielle and Gabrielle Stewart; mother, Teresa Murphy; brothers, Michael (Hilda) and Martin (Marianne); sisters, Patricia Murphy and Mary (Michael Smith); also greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 5-7 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus. Funeral Mass 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in memory of Daniel to the American Cancer Society , 5555 Frantz Rd, Dublin, OH (43017). Danny, I remember you fondly from our days at St Chris and some nice chats at our reunions.  You and your sister, Patty, were always kind and gentle souls.  I am sorry you lost your battle with cancer after a courageous year.  But now you are more comfortable and in a better place.  My very best to your family.  Kathe
