James Lawrence Fullin, Jr.

Died: March 29, 2006

FULLIN, James L., age 58, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg, after a valiant struggle with leukemia.  For nearly 30 years, Jim served the citizens of Wisconsin as an attorney for the state, and he served on the Madison School Board from 1986-1992.  Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy; his son, Jim; and beloved granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Tucson, Ariz.,; his daughter Katy (Gordon) Reeder of Roland, Iowa; and many caring relatives and close friends.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Madison Foundation (which primarily funds services to children), c/o Joseph Krzos, 214 Sauk Creek Drive, Madison, WI 53717, or the child services or advocacy organization of your choice.  A full obituary will appear shortly before a memorial service to be held this summer.

MADISON - James L. Fullin, age 58, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, after a valiant struggle with leukemia. Jim graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1969, and remained a loyal supporter of the Fighting Irish throughout his life. He was awarded a law degree from Ohio State University in 1972, and was subsequently admitted to the bar in Ohio and Wisconsin. Jim served the citizens of Wisconsin for nearly 30 years as a staff attorney for the Legislative Council, as Executive Director of the Judicial Council, and as an appellate attorney in the State Public Defender's Office. Jim was a tireless advocate for children and was committed to improving life for vulnerable members of our community. His many volunteer activities reflected those values. He served on the Madison School Board from 1986 until 1992. A lifelong gourmand, Jim routinely cooked for the Third Street YWCA program and at Wil-Mar, as an active member of Downtown Kiwanis. He chaired the Madison Community Services Commission for several years, served a term as President of the Dane County Bar, and was a long-term member of the Bar's Pro-Bono Trust Fund Board. Jim is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his son, Jim, and beloved granddaughter, Kaitlyn, of Tucson, Ariz.; his daughter, Katy (Gordon) Reeder of Roland, Iowa; his aunt, Barbara Vermillion of Ohio; his uncle, Joseph (Dolores) Lawrence of Michigan; his sisters, Mary Pat Lynch of Florida, Bridget (Paul) Carns of Minnesota and Margaret (Paul) Towery of Ohio; his brothers, Kevin (Patricia) Fullin of Kenosha, Dan (Karen) Fullin of Ohio, Frank (Jennifer) Fullin of Ohio, and Tim (Regina) Fullin of Illinois; Kathy's sisters, Sarah (Fred) Muermann of Kiel, Nora Carbine (Howard Fenton) of Washington, D.C., Laura (Paul) Brancky of Illinois, formerly of Madison and Mary Carbine of Madison; Kathy's brother, James (Andrea) Carbine of New Jersey; his many nephews and nieces; and by many close friends, including "the Geezers." A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY, 900 University Bay Drive, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2006. We miss you, Jim. Your sense of humor, your terrific wit, your integrity. your music, your fine intelligence. You were true to yourself, start to finish.

You were a key part of the Class of '65, and you still are.
